Dazzle

Dazzle is a young talented dog. Our emphasis in training lies with herding, but we also train obedience, agility, tracking and a bit of Search and Rescue work.

Drijven:
Dit is Dazzle's passie. Ze leeft ervoor om vee te drijven. Met 6 weken oud probeerde ze al de schapen uit het land te halen bij haar fokker in Canada. Met 4 maanden oud is ze er heel serieus over, erg gedreven en deed het super. Toen ze 1,5 jaar was, zijn we meer serieuze training begonnen. We werken voornamelijk met schapen, want die hebben we vaker ter beschikking. Dazzle houdt erg goed balans, houdt de schapen bij elkaar en is een harde werker. Ze drijft eenden als ik dat haar vraag en doet het goed, maar ze vindt het niet erg bijzonder. Koeien zijn veruit haar favoriet. Eerder hadden we alleen een paar keer met koeien gewerkt op de wedstrijden en op een aantal clinics, totdat we in 2009 de kans kregen om te helpen de koeien binnen te brengen op een melkvee bedrijf. Dazzle gaat het liefst naar de koppen, maar gaat ook naar de hakken als het nodig is. Dit doet ze mooi laag.

Dazzle loopt succesvol wedstrijden en behaalde haar kampioenschap in 2011! In 2010 zijn we gestart op WEWASC Farm Trials en dat vindt Dazzle geweldig. Ze heeft ondertussen haar titel WSFTDs (WEWASC Started Farm Trial Dog sheep) en een eerste leg voor WSFTDd (ducks) behaald. In 2011 waren ook de eerste ASCA Farm Trials in Europa en heeft Dazzle daar haar OFTDdsc (Open Farm Trial Dog ducks sheep cattle) behaald!

Herding:
This is Dazzle's passion. She lives to work stock. When she was 6 weeks old, she tried to gather the sheep in Canada. At 4 months of age, she is all bussiness, very driven and did great. When she was 1,5 year of age, we started more serious training. We work mainly sheep, because we have access to sheep more easily. Dazzle has great sense of balance and group and is a hard worker. She will work ducks when asked to and does well, but doesn't like them so much. Cattle is her preference by far. We had worked cattle only at trials or a few clinics, until we got in 2009 the opportunity to help gather the cattle on a dairy farm. Dazzle prefers the head, but will heel also. She has a nice low heeling style.

Dazzle competes successfully in stockdog trials and earned her WTCH in 2011! In 2010, we also started at 2 WEWASC Farm Trials and Dazzle loves those. She earned her WSFTDs (WEWASC Started Farm Trial Dog sheep) and a first leg on WSFTDd (ducks). In 2011, the first ASCA Farm Trials were hosted in Europe and Dazzle earned her OFTDdsc (Open Farm Trial Dog ducks sheep cattle)!

Behendigheid:
Dazzle is in de zomer van 2007 begonnen met behendigheid. Door mijn werk en periodes in het buitenland lukt het niet om gestructureerd bij een vereniging te trainen. We hopen de behendigheid weer op te pakken als ik weer langere tijd in Nederland ben.
Ondanks het gebrek aan training, hebben we in 2010 ingeschreven op onze eerste ASCA wedstrijd. Alle 4 rondjes (2x Vast Parcours en 2x Jumping) liepen we foutloos, dus Dazzle behaalde haar eerste titel, JS-N (Jumping Standard Novice), en 2 kwalificaties (3 nodig) voor RS-N (Regular Standard Novice). In 2011 hebben we daar JS-O aan toegevoegd en een kwalificatie voor JS-E en 5 punten voor RS-N.

Agility:
Dazzle has started agility training in the summer of 2007. Due to my work and many periods abroad, we don't manage to train structurally at a club. We hope to get back to agility when I'm back in the Netherlands for a longer period of time.
Even with the lack of training, we entered our first ASCA trial in 2010. We ran all 4 runs (2x Regular and 2x Jumping) clear, so Dazzle earned her first agility title JS-N (Jumping Standard Novice), and 2 legs towards RS-N (Regular Standard Novice). In 2011,we added her JS-O, a leg towards JS-E and another 5Q for RS-N.

Gehoorzaamheid:
Dazzle heeft engelse obedience lessen gevolgd vanaf de leeftijd van 10 maanden. Ze is leergierig en slim en pikt de oefeningen snel op. Op de leeftijd van 10 maanden begon Dazzle behoorlijk te puberen en dat heeft zijn weerslag op de obedience training. Haar volgwerk is super als ze haar bui heeft, maar kan vreselijk zijn als ze weer eens lekker tegendraads is. We gaan met alle oefeningen weer even een paar stapjes terug en werken aan de basis. Op het moment zijn de regelmatige trainingslessen gestopt vanwege tijd tekort, maar we trainen thuis natuurlijk gewoon verder en hopen het later weer op te pakken.

Obedience:
Dazzle has followed English obedience trainings since she was 10 weeks old. She is eager to learn, smart and she learns quickly. At the age of 10 months, Dazzle has a difficult period and that is noticeable in her obedience training. Her heelwork is awesome if she has the right mood, otherwise it can be awful. We just took a few steps back in every exercise and work on the basics.
Regular training has stopped now, because of time constraints, but we keep training at home of course and hope to pick it up later again.

Dogfrisbee:
Dazzle is vanaf pup af aan al gek van de frisbee. We spelen er af en toe mee en Dazzle leert snel. We trainen niet wedstrijd gericht, maar spelen frisbee regelmatig. Dazzle kan de meeste oefeningen, vangt goed en heeft er veel plezier in.

Dogfrisbee:
Dazzle has been crazy about the frisbee since she was apup. We play with it now and then and Dazzle learns fast. We don't train for competitions at the moment, but play frisbee regulary. Dazzle knows most tricks, is a good catcher and enjoys the game very much!

Almost 12 weeks old

6 months old

May 2007; Dazzle playing dogfrisbee. We only play with the disc once in a while, but Daz loves her disc and learns fast. We have made a careful start with the "over-the body" exercises, as you can see below.

Speuren:
Dazzle heeft nu een aantal trainingsessie's speuren gehad. Ze is enthousiast en begint het spelletje nu te snappen. Ze heeft ook een workshop speuren en zoeken gevolgd en daar bleek dat ze deze discipline ook geweldig vindt en het nu al goed kan!

Tracking:
Dazzle has had a few trainingsessions tracking now. She is enthousiastic and is starting to get the hang of this and understand what the game is all about. She also took part in a search and tracking workshop, where she showed that she also loves this venue and is already pretty good!!

Reddingshondenwerk:
Toen we met de volwassen honden reddingswerk aan het trainen waren, ging Dazzle mee en keek ingespannen toe. Aan het eind mocht ze ook een keer proberen. Ze kon niet wachten en stond al te stuiteren aan de lijn. Toen ze het commando kreeg om te zoeken ('revieren') vloog ze weg en vond al snel het 'slachtoffer', waar ze natuurlijk de hemel in geprezen werd. Ze was zo trots op zichzelf! :-)
Mogelijk gaan we verder met deze training als we er de tijd voor vinden.

Search and Rescue:
When training the adult dogs for SaR, Dazzle watched and at the end she could have a try at her first SaR training. She just couldn't wait and was bouncing up and down. When she got the command to search, she flew away and quickly found the 'victim'. She was so proud of herself. :-)
We might continue this training when we'll find the time for it.
